ABSTRACT

Background: Sexual education is a process whose basic aim consists of each person can live making possible their sexuality in a healthy, happy, and responsible way. However, at the national level it has been some lack in regard to its teaching in the classrooms. It is believed that a good quality of sexual education would help to form more positive and pleasant sexual attitudes (SA), understanding it as set of beliefs, feelings, and trends to act in positive and erotophilic and/or negative or erotophobic way. This bipolar current will be enhanced by the search of novel stimuli and sexual sensations and the intimate or sexual fantasies.

Objectives: the main objective of the present study was to know more about the sexual education that the schools teach throughout the school period and its relationship with the (SA) in young women.

Methodology: It was implemented a non-experimental observational transverse study with a quantitative methodology through a descriptive, relational and prospective model. The sample was compound of 427 young Spanish women. Sexual education and (SA) were assessed through the “t” student test for independent samples. Through the Pearson’s correlation, the associations between the SA and the number of sexual education themes carried out were studied, and the number of fulfilled and desired themes. Finally, a study of frequencies of the most desired sexual education themes was performed, the main source of information and the subjective consideration of the level of knowledge about women sexual education.

Results: It turned out that there weren´t statistically significant differences between the components of SA and have or not received sexual education in the school period. No differences were found between the components SA and the number of sexual education themes carried out. Nevertheless, negative, and significative associations were found among the number of themes implemented and the number of themes desired. The study of frequencies glimpsed that the most wished theme was the enjoyment of sexual intercourse (91,6%), the main source of knowledge was the self-knowledge (60%) and the perception of the sexual education was very low (50,4%).

Conclusion: The outcome of this research points out that there is a tangible need improvement about sexual education given in the school season. The data obtained show very high values for the SA in young women, however, there seems to be no relationship with the sexual education in the schools, probably due to the low knowledge about sexuality received.
